Big Sister HR

For the hr newbies

(or wannabe newbies)

So you think you want to be in HR?  you're in the right place to ask this question.

Let's start with The Real Talk.

HR isn't a job you fall into by accident (Well, it might Be accidental) and coast through — it's not for everyone, and no one tells you the real truths going in.

one of the first is That you won't always be liked.

That you'll carry things you can't share, even with people you trust.

That proving your value often takes longer than in almost any other function.

That some days you'll be the one delivering the hard news, and other days you'll be the one holding the line nobody else wants to hold.

But here's the other truth: if you're the kind of person who can stay steady in someone else's storm, hold a boundary without losing your compassion, and find real meaning in solving people-problems — this career can be one of the most quietly powerful things you ever do.

After spending nearly 30 years learning these lessons the hard way, from my very first HR responsibilities to sitting in A higher title, Big Sister HR exists so you don't have to learn them all alone.

providing you a few key tools to start:
